Liam's Arrival

Liam Mark Conley has finally arrived! On Tuesday, September 28, 2010, Hayden and Pat went into the hospital at 8 AM to see if her water had broken. She had been having contractions all night and for the previous two days.

When they got to the hospital, Hayden was examined and the doctor discovered that she was 3 cm dialated. This was a big surprise since a week before, she wasn't dialated at all.

The doctor told Hayden to walk around the maternity ward to see if she was going to progress any further. After walking for one hour, she was now at 4 cm! Hayden was admitted into the hospital at 11 AM.

Here is a picture of Hayden after being admitted into the hospital. Each room is a suite, complete with its own bathroom, fridge, and even a patio!

The mommy and daddy-to-be!

Once in the room, Hayden needed to be hooked up to a fetal heart rate monitor and a contraction monitor. These allowed the doctors and nurses to know if the baby was under any stress, and whether the labor is progressing as needed.

Patrick, the proud papa!

After some time, the contractions weren't getting as strong as the doctor wanted them to be, so they broke her water and then put her on petocin, a medicine made to promote labor.

At about 8 PM, Hayden was fully dialated, and by 9 PM, the nurse told Hayden it was time to push. She pushed for about 30 minutes, and Liam's head began to come out. At this time, the midwife and baby nurses came in.

Hayden was told not to push until everything was ready, but Liam started to come out on his own!!

The next push, Liam's head (and hand) came out, and after one final push, Liam had entered the world!!

Proud mama!
